I have been teaching privately since I was in college and have been teaching ever since. .  I believe in meeting students where they are and encouraging them to practice regularly so they will continue to progress at a rate that keeps them excited and developing a passion for the flute and music.  I use classical music and more modern music to help them explore different styles and to keep having fun!  My students are encouraged to audition for honors bands, enter solo and ensemble competitions Adult students are encouraged to join local flute choirs/ orchestras or local concert bands or community orchestras to broaden their experiences. I've found that presenting multiple solutions to varying problems gives the students the best chance to succeed and it's not that someone cannot learn, they just haven't been presented with an explanation they can understand and clicks for them. I ended up teaching some of them the flute as well as facilitating Health Rhythms Empowerment Drumming. Because the youth were at a Behavioral Health part of the hospital, I learned to incorporate mental health strategies using rhythms and music for self expression and stress reduction.
