For older and/or more advanced students, I like to create a balance of tone warm ups, scale work, etudes, and musical rep. I encourage students to bring pieces they are interested in learning into their lessons. If a student is also interested in non-classical music (e.g. Disney tunes, Celtic music, pop, jazz, etc.), I find music in those genres at their playing level for them to enjoy. In addition, I have performed in the pit for the musicals Once Upon a Mattress, Fiddler on the Roof, Anything Goes, Oklahoma, and Beauty and the Beast. I have also worked closely with many composers and has premiered new works by Nolan Stolz, Masatora Goya, Sean Pallatroni, Brendon Randall-Myers, and made the world premiere recording of the Delian Suite, from a body of international composers in the Delian Society. I always try not to push for practice assignments, students are busy for school homework, outdoor activities, family obligations, most importantly, students should have fun to play music, of course practice is important, but if students lost interest in music playing, it will be hard to continue to have lessons. For parents, they would like to see kids's improvements, so that I set up student recital each year, and they can see how the kids improved each semester. Read More

I began teaching 7 years ago in high school and I have continually taught students of all ages since. As a flutist trained with teachers in jazz, classical, and pop, I am experienced playing and teaching many styles including classical, opera, swing, pop, and musicals. Along with the flute, I hope students will also learn music theory, orchestration, and singing. By giving students a holistic musical education, I facilitate a rewarding experience for students. I'm a recent transplant to Brooklyn, NY after spending seven wonderful years studying and working in Boston! Originally from Gainesville, Florida, I first learned piano, then added saxophone, clarinet, flute, and bass in my middle and high school years. I went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston. I began teaching private lessons when I was in high school. Since then I have gained more experience teaching privately and in group settings. In college I had the opportunity to direct and teach a community flute choir for adults. Currently I teach private and group lessons to high school students through the Boston Public Public School District.
