Teaching is the most rewarding aspect of my career as it is an important way for me to share music with others. I first started teaching private flute lessons in 2013 working primarily with K-12 students. In 2015, I taught flute sectionals and music classes for middle school students as a counselor at the University of Colorado Boulder Summer Music Academy. I also served as Event Coordinator for the University of Colorado Boulder's Teaching Peace Through Music chapter, where I helped plan and promote classes on music education and learned from instructors working with underprivileged youth. I let the student pick what they want to start with first and then I will pick the next exercise. For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. As every student has different needs I dont have a specific plan that I follow. Rather I like to adapt my lesson plans to each individual students goals and playing ability. I always have my students work on a mixture of technique, etudes, and solo repertoire. For very early beginners I like to work out of Trever Wyes Very First Flute Book and his Beginners Book for the Flute. I also like the book Forty Little Pieces in Progressive Order for Beginner Flutists and from there progress to First Solos for the Flute Player. Read More
