I also worked as a School Aged Child Care Leader at Sandburg Elementary School from 2015 to 2018, further honing my skills in working with children ages 5 to 11. In 2019, I attended Marrowstone Music Festival as a Fellow. This gave me the opportunity to mentor high school and undergraduate flutists individually and during sectionals and to coach a student wind quintet. During my final year at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, I also taught a Public Speaking course for undergraduate students. Read More

In each lesson the student and myself work to make goals for them to accomplish every week and discuss discuss the ways they might be able to go about accomplishing the goals. Sometimes I will make audio recordings of a student to track progress. For a student to sit and really listen to the improvemnets they have made I find to be one of my best teaching tools. For beginning students I like to start with a method book, such as "Tradition of Excellence". This allows students to start from the very beginning, especially if the student does not have previous music reading experience. I teach reading and playing hand in hand so that it becomes a memorized process.
