I like to have my students always preparing for something, whether it is an audition, recital, or competition. We do this by working on a combination of solos, etudes, fundamentals, duets, and sight-reading activities. Allison is a flutist from Miami, FL, who has been playing since she was 9 years old. A graduate from University Miami with several scholarships, as well as finishing up her Master's under scholarship from University of North Texas, she has studied with some of the top instructors in the country. Her primary teachers are Trudy Kane, Mary Karen Clardy. She just recently finished a Teaching Fellowship at UNT, where she was responsible for teaching undergraduate non-performance majors (music ed and pre-music) and jazz saxophonists how to double on the flute. My teaching experience began when I was in college. I taught trombone and euphonium private lessons for several years in the school district that I attended when I was a student. Additionally, I also have done All State Masterclasses for the TMEA trombone etudes. Encouraging regular practice, building the life-long skill of discipline, and hard work are key skills that I enjoy getting to emphasize to my students, as it has a tendency to build student progression and ultimately gain a passion for learning the instrument.
