It could be something as simple as next week I want to play the single note that has been giving me trouble, or as advanced as I want to be able to play this solo piece from memory in three months. Then I will choose from appropriate method books depending on the student's skill level. If a student has a specific path that they want to take or have their own books they want to learn from, I will cater the lessons to that.
