When teaching such a specialized topic as the flute, I cater to specific needs of that particular student by bringing out their strengths and providing consistent and genuine positive reinforcement. I use method books such as Trevor Wye, Rubank, and Anderson etudes, depending on the level of the student. In addition to those, I also provide some of my own materials such as scales, fingering charts, and pieces. For beginning students, I start teaching fundamentals through the Rubank Essential Elements book. As students move toward intermediate-advanced levels I introduce the Jeanne Baxtresser book of Orchestral Excerpts and the Taffanel-Gaubert book for technique. I bring in a piece each lesson for sight-reading practice to encourage students to read music on their toes. Additionally, through practicing scales, students learn music theory and notation. At the end of each lesson, I give students a musical goal for their next lesson to motivate active participation in their learning process. Read More

I have developed my own system and materials for introducing the fingerings and reading music in a methodical way. I write my own simple exercises and songs. I use the Wagner book and a duet book, and appropriate solos depending on the interests of the student. I customize the lessons and go where the student's needs and interests are. Popular songs can be good as solos, and some studnets really enjoy playing Handel, Telemann, and Bach. Read More

I am a passionate flutist that loves teaching flute privately in addition to performing. In May of 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Hartt School of Music with a BM in Flute Performance. While I was there, I studied with Janet Arms, flutist of New York City Opera. I have also extensively studied with Dr. Barbara Hopkins, Assistant Principal of The Hartford Symphony Orchestra. In each lesson the student and myself work to make goals for them to accomplish every week and discuss discuss the ways they might be able to go about accomplishing the goals. Sometimes I will make audio recordings of a student to track progress. For a student to sit and really listen to the improvemnets they have made I find to be one of my best teaching tools. To see a student smile over their happiness over music and their continuous progress and enjoyment makes me love what I do so very much. Read More

I am also working through the Assembly Theater in northern Rhode Island as one of their two pool music directors. I have worked at ccri as a student tutor and assistant teacher. During that time, I taught a couple of students in voice and ran a choir. The choir has performed many times in multiple venues such as the RI state house.
