For all students, I encourage them to use Trevor Wye practice books, which include my favorite Reichert and Taffanel Gaubert exercises, warmups, and etudes. While learning the fundamentals, I have some beginner-level pieces and etudes to help hone these skills before students move onto more advanced repertoire. I like to guide my teaching according to the styles and composers that students are interested in to ensure that my students enjoy what they are playing first and foremost. Read More

For older and/or more advanced students, I like to create a balance of tone warm ups, scale work, etudes, and musical rep. I encourage students to bring pieces they are interested in learning into their lessons. If a student is also interested in non-classical music (e.g. Disney tunes, Celtic music, pop, jazz, etc.), I find music in those genres at their playing level for them to enjoy. I firmly believe in starting with the basics of singing for younger students, however they should have fun as well as learn. Giving them a choice in at least one song we do every so often, to me, is the way to keep them interested in the art.
