For each student I like to set specific, small weekly and lesson goals as well as broader long term goals, with the intention that each small goal will bring us closer to the large one. In 2005, he won the 1st prize at the Houston flute club, Denise Jennings Memorial Solo & Ensemble Competition Professional level, also has selected one of 5 finalists of the Byron Hester memorial competition. His most recent recital includes Duo Indiana 2011 in a sold out performance with pianist Akiko Iguchi in Japan, and Back to Baroque with the Renovo String Orchestra at the Music Institute of Chicago September 2011. Most recent performance includes Duo Reital in Tokyo, Japan with pianist Vladimir Valjarevic in August 2012, "Sonatas And Birds." I began teaching 7 years ago in high school and I have continually taught students of all ages since. As a flutist trained with teachers in jazz, classical, and pop, I am experienced playing and teaching many styles including classical, opera, swing, pop, and musicals. For all students, I encourage them to use Trevor Wye practice books, which include my favorite Reichert and Taffanel Gaubert exercises, warmups, and etudes. While learning the fundamentals, I have some beginner-level pieces and etudes to help hone these skills before students move onto more advanced repertoire. I have been teaching students since my sophomore year of high school, 3 years ago. I taught both beginner piano lessons and flute lessons of all levels. I encourage my students to keep a practice journal with their practice schedule, daily practice logs, long term and short term goals, lessons from notes, and anything else that can be useful for improvement. This allows students to continue progressing rather than finding themselves unmotivated to practice. Read More
