As a teacher, I can adapt my teaching style to fit the unique strengths and needs of each individual student. I can work towards their goals which could include, preparing for school band concerts, preparing for auditions, learning their favorite songs, joining a band, or anything else they desire. I strive to foster an encouraging environment for self-growth, self-expression, and dedication to art. Since effective practice methods are important, I work with each student to determine their learning style and accommodate accordingly so they can achieve their best practice. Read More

Being able to teach others and share my knowledge is what drives me, so I like to see progress. I have a goal-oriented approach that differs depending on the individual, but the results are always there. I love feeling the satisfaction of a student learning. Not to mention the relationships that are built and how much I learn from them in turn! It truly is a give and take relationship, just another individual sharing experience and knowledge. Read More

With beginners, I focus on the fundamentals like working out of George L. Stone's 'Stick Control' and introducing rudiments while focusing on overall technique. I also work out of a book called 'A Funky Primer', which is a drum set book that has hundreds of different beat combinations. Depending on how the student progresses and what their overall goals are, I eventually begin to introduce difference genres and styles and more complex and challenging approaches to the drum set. I am currently interviewing for full time positions in the state of Tennessee. Read More

My instructional method does not lean toward one method book for instruction. There is however a useful combination of selected literature, excerpts, solos, exercises and play alongs in addition to anything the student wants or has to work on. I teach technique and fundamentals that are applicable to all styles, not just one particular style. I'm teaching you to play music. Not a collection of beats and fills. Standards are met and individual goals are not ignored. Read More

I began teaching during my college career providing free lessons through a University sponsored program to underprivilaged young people in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area. I volunteered there for 5 years and fell in love with imparting young people with a deeper understanding and appreciation of music. Starting in 2006, after learning some key ideas of pedagogy from my private instructor, I began taking on private students of my own and teaching lessons professionally. Read More
