I began teaching guitar while in high school, and have had students consistently since 2002. During college I taught private guitar lessons both in Grand Rapids and Ypsilanti Michigan. After graduating I begam teaching guitar, audio engineering, and music business at Grand Rapids Community College. From 2009-2016 I was an instructor for a teen music program myself and other members of The Outer Vibe started called "Rock Camp." This was a week long summer camp which the students formed bands and practiced songs to play a concert at the end of the week. Read More

I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16 th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month.I want to get them off and running. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My theory teacher Mr Lormand, had a master from Julliard and was a stickler for the vernacular and so am I, my grandmother was a school teacher and I get a lot from her as well.I get my students to buy a Harvard Dictionary of music for reference. From these experiences, I seek to teach piano. Incorporate performance, write a song, play and experience other musical instruments, enjoy the music, find appreciation to the variety of genres that are out there: from country, classical, to even jazz, and rock. I want my students to enjoy the art as we work for specific skills, techniques, and professionalisms. Because the bottom line, is the joy we feel ourselves when we play and the joy we give to others when they hear us perform. Read More

I am primarily a guitar player from the Hudson Valley in New York, currently living in Nashville, TN. I also play and teach bass guitar! I have worked around the world on 3 different cruise ships; namely Carnival Dream, Princess Dawn and Celebrity Millennium. I have been teaching since around 2011, which is also when I began performing live. I went to Dutchess Community College and SUNY New Paltz universities, where I studied music (mostly jazz, classical, Latin/Brazilian and Metal/Rock) and ultimately graduated with a B.S. in Contemporary Music degree. Although my collegiate educational background is not primarily in music, I have vast knowledge of music theory, and understand that each student has individual needs. My biggest method that has the most success, no matter the subject of training is "I Do, We Do, You Do". When teaching a new musical concept, it is most important for a student to have an understanding of the principle. I would explain the concept, and give an example by demonstrating the concept (I Do), however many times the student needs me to do so, and they would practice the concept with me (We Do), and once they feel comfortable trying the concept on their own, I would have them demonstrate the concept for me until mastery is achieved (You Do).
