I meet the student's needs and structure the curriculum accordingly. I have books and resources, as well as recommended YouTube videos to to prepare for lessons. I'm a proponent of Positive Feedback and have training in Responsive Classroom. Music is one of my parts. It's no different than my lungs, feet, or my heart. It is just as necessary to me as food and water and was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. Music isnt just what I do...its who I am. I hope to one day inspire those who have an appreciation and love for music to have the same appreciation and love for how it [music] works. Read More

My teaching style is built on a foundation of encouragement and self-improvement. For a student to truly progress, he or she needs to be inspired and that's what my job is mostly about. I take great pride in being able to motivate and push students to want to get better on their own time, with the lesson time being available for learning new skills and techniques. Always being positive, even in criticism, is important to me. Read More

For beginning students I generally use the Suzuki books and have had some training in the method. I don't use a strict Suzuki method but combine it with a more traditional approach by including note reading, scales, etc. I also use the Faber books in conjunction with the Suzuki for piano. For adults I generally give them the option of choosing the music they would like to learn and then try to incorporate some of the technical elements by using scales and Hanon exercises. Read More

I'm an accomplished and passionate instructor who enjoys working with motivated students. I offer a love of music that translates into a connection with students and parents who sincerely want to advance. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1980-81. I have had the opportunity to perform and minister all over the world. I take a "student-centered" approach to working with the student (and also with parents of younger students), I will coach and advance this "team" toward the desired goals and outcomes. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Element's for Strings or Beth Lavender's A Better Beginning. These books introduce the fundamental position and note reading techniques in a logical progression. After the student has grasped the fundamentals, they are welcome to bring in contemporary songs. I find that a mixture of fundamentals and fun recognizable songs keeps students both progressing technically and connected to the music. Read More
