Instruments: Saxophone
While I find most beginning band method books to be effective, I often integrate exercises from saxophone-specific texts, such as: Larry Teal's Saxophonists Workbooks, Rubank Method books of all levels, and for more advanced students Rascher's Top Tones and Londeix's Le Detache. I possess a wide knowledge of repertoire across genres, and cater to students' individual interests. While I foster technical development, I place my main emphasis on the students' enjoyment of the music they are performing, and believe that at every age and skill level one can perform confidently given the appropriate repertoire. I love working with students of all ages! In 2018, I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy from Charleston Southern University and have been teaching ever since. I grew up traveling with my older siblings who are all musicians, and we would perform all over for concerts, weddings, social events, churches, and more. As a musician of 23 years, I have loved seeing how music brings people together and am excited to instill a passion for music into the students that I teach, as well as my own children. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I usually start beginning students who are children with Mel Bay's Guitar Method Grade 1. As the student progresses, I introduce techniques that appeal to his or her preferences and strengths as they appear. For adults and teens, I find out what the student's musical goals are, such as accompanying themselves or lead playing, and tailor my instruction and materials to keep the lessons engaging and effective. I frequently create custom lesson plans, drills, and materials as well. Read More

It's important to have fun while playing music and lessons shouldn't be an exception! During lessons I like to play duets and give small challenges, providing a interactive experience that encourages my students to enjoy the process of improving on their instrument. I expect my students to work hard while practicing and at lessons, though I understand every student learns differently and at a different pace. Ultimately it's the student's decision to become a better musician and I intend to do my best to lead the way. Read More

I began teaching lessons 8 years ago when I was 16. I was heavily involved in my church's music program and I began with a few students who were fairly young. By the time I was 18, I was teaching over 15 lessons a week to students ranging from 4 to 45 years old. During my college years I was in school full-time, so I taught a small number of students on and off; however the experience I gained at Berklee significant increased the quality of education I'm able to give a student.
