I know that every student has a different learning style, and therefore, each lesson plan is custom-made. I work to further develop their natural skills, and making them feel comfortable working on what doesn't come as easily. Together, the student and I work to find out exactly what inspires them, and then all of their lessons will revolve around that. Read More

Teaching has been one of my passions since I've been playing music. It started with teaching friends how to play Metallica songs as a teenager, and has evolved into teaching my students how to write and perform their own music. I welcome students of all ages, whether you are just looking to learn songs, or learning how to write, or learning the nuts and bolts behind the theory of music, I have the tools to help you reach your goals. Hello! I am a 22-year-old drummer and graduate of Belmont University's School of Music. I've been playing drums for the last 12 years all while playing local shows, touring, and teaching others how to do the same thing. I'm originally from a small town in rural southern Minnesota where I was in the marching band, jazz bands, and choirs as well as playing in a touring band with my friends. While I lived in Minnesota I also attended music camps at McNally Smith and Berklee College of Music. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I began teaching cello in my early 20s, teaching public school strings classes and private pupils while in my undergrad at UTC. I also taught throughout my graduate degree, teaching privately, cover teaching undergraduate students for my teacher, and also teaching college students. In addition, I led orchestra sectionals, coached student chamber music ensembles, sat on jury panels, and wrote and performed programs for entire classes of K-12 students. In addition, I have experience as a professional contracted and freelance classical cellist - I've played with orchestras, recorded sessions, and performed in a string quartet professionally. For all students I try to incorporate all elements of music by including appropriate amounts music history and theory into my lessons. For beginners, I tend to utilize Trevor Wye exercises, and slowly incorporate small musical pieces. Although tedious, I believe that scales and etudes make students technically and musically proficient. I therefore include them in my lessons, but ensure the students are gaining the benefit of these exercises. I like to approach lessons from a wholistic standpoint, putting an emphasis on a student's posture, breathing and attitude. Read More

I aim to equip each and every one of my students with a level of musical understanding that will reward them with their own respect and passion for music. I believe that self-confidence and setting goals is important for development and so I encourage my students to embrace their own musical ideas while adjusting my teaching methods to each of them. I teach to give my students a great sense of self-confidence and to provide them with an understanding of musical expression so that they may unlock their full potentials. Read More

For beginner students, we start off using the beginning books from "Piano Adventures" by Faber Faber, and published by Hal Leonard. They learn to read music, improvise, music theory, and play all style of music. A typical lesson for an elementary school student would be 10 min of playing assigned pieces that they've practiced for the week, 10 min of new songs for the next week, 5 min of music theory, and 5 min of some sort of musical game.
