Technology is very important in my lessons: the studio is equiped with speakers so the student can play along to their favorite music. There is a also a printer so worksheets can be instantly made. There are drum mics and a mixer so the student can listen to their playing weekly and find ways to improve. I like to figure out what a students interests are and go from there. Read More

For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. The method used for teaching a student how to enjoy music should be practical, intuitive, and natural. I begin by training a student how to listen (in the same way that a child would hear words before he could speak). From that point, a student learns to "speak" or play musical sentences. Finally, the reading skills are developed. Through this approach, musical literacy is founded and then the art of mastering the instrument begins by developing sensitivity and fine musicianship. My teaching philosophy is that students blossom at their own pace. Some concepts might be more difficult for some to grasp than others. Students may excel in some areas and struggle in others. I teach sustainable and kind methods of practice and learning. I believe that a teachers true job is to teach a student how to practice. I encourage short and long term goal-setting. I believe that what keeps any musician coming back to the woodshed is enthusiasm. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

Music is one of my parts. It's no different than my lungs, feet, or my heart. It is just as necessary to me as food and water and was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. Music isnt just what I do...its who I am. I hope to one day inspire those who have an appreciation and love for music to have the same appreciation and love for how it [music] works. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
