The most important aspect of pedagogy which, I have learned from my own experience, is that music is best learned through MUSIC! I will always work with the student to find out what they want to play and teach through that style and those pieces; theory and technique are inherent to music from pop to classical and everything in between! I will also work with the student on expanding their own musical horizons and hopefully discover new music together with them Read More

I began teaching when I moved to Wisconsin in 1990. I had twelve students I taught at the Music Go Round studio and three students I taught in their home. I attended West Texas State University (now AM) in Canyon Texas from 1981 - 1983. In 1983, I decided to pursue a professional music career and tour with bands. After moving to Nashville in 1986, I was quickly humbled by the amazing talent out there and kickstarted my education again. Read More

I studied music in middle school and high school through wind ensemble, jazz band, marching band, show choir, and private lessons. During this time I also attended music camps at McNally Smith and Berklee College of Music. I then moved to Nashville and graduated from Belmont University's School of Music. In Nashville, I have played with many independent artists across multiple genres as well as toured with bands across the country. Read More

I always approach teaching on an individual basis. I find out what the student loves about music, and what made him or her want to learn in the first place. We set realistic goals for pace and have fun. I often mix traditional work with fun work. For example, alongside conventional ways to learn melody and harmony, I'll tie those lessons into specific songs or pieces of music that the student likes, to show the relevance of the material and the importance it has, at the same time keeping the student interested. I got into teaching at a fairly young age, beginning my junior year in high school. I began teaching kids who were just getting into middle school band, as well as some of my peers. Although I never aspired to be a full-time teacher, I developed a strong passion for teaching there are few things I enjoy more than witnessing a student succeed. I have helped many of my students with auditions, competitions, and recitals. Read More

My teaching style has a lot to do on the student's needs and wants for they own playing. Giving a student a concept and watching it unfold in front of you is what gives me the fuel to keep fueling the student. Independency during lessons helps the student learn what works for them instead of me pushing it at them. During their own practice, I won't be there to address every mistake. Read More
