Because I teach only part-time, I have a limited number of students so I'm able to create custom lesson plans for each individual. My goal for a first meeting with any student is to get to know the student. I want to know what music the student is into, what they want to focus on, why they're taking lessons and what their goals are. From there I can create a lesson plan that is a productive balance of fun, intriguing, challenging and fulfiling. Read More

I am is a singer, songwriter and guitarist based out of Nashville, TN. Although firmly rooted in bluegrass and classic country, my music incorporates elements from all facets of American roots music drawing inspiration from jazz, blues, rockabilly and old-time. I lead my own country band which plays original music as well as the music of my honky-tonk heroes such as Merle Haggard, George Jones and Gram Parsons. I am an in-demand side man and when not performing with the band, I play guitar and sing with a number of other musicians and bands including The Bad Oats, Miles Burger and Corrina Tadros. Read More

For beginning folk/pop guitar students I use the Hal Leonard Guitar Method. For Classical guitar I use a combination of various resources, including Segovia scales, Sor studies, Guilianni right-hand studies and Frederick Noad method books. I definitely encourage students to work towards performance of the music they are working on, and try to schedule recital/performance opportunities as students deveope and gain mastery over their material. I always try to maintain a healthy balance between keeping the student working on music that challenges them, and advances their technique, with the need to have fun and enjoy the playing of a musical instrument as a means of entertainment and relaxation. I've found that with any instrument, its important to pick music that stretches you, but also music that the student likes or loves to keep them interested and engaged. It can sometimes be hard work, so it's important that the result is you either accomplishing a goal and that could be in technic or learning a song that you love. Even if the student wants to work on improve, we can figure out a song that they enjoy, or have wanted to play along with for a long time, and we can build a track of that song for them to practice too. I have taught private lessons since 2011, where I started as a substitute instructor for Allegro School of Music (Nashville, TN). In 2013, I took on my own roster of private students, and have continued doing that ever since. I worked as an elementary music specialist for Metro Nashville Public Schools from 2013-2018. Teaching students, one-on-one, is my primary passion. The work that happens individually is indispensable to the musical success a student achieves. Read More
