For beginning students, I use the Hal Leonard Drum Set Method 1. It's written by Greg Bissonette (Ringo Starr's drummer) and is just awesome because it features exercises in technique and reading along with different drumbeats and fills. It also has really fun play-along songs for practicing all of the different concepts and beats. As we move along, I like to focus on different aspects of drumming.
