I'm a self-taught drummer whose influences are very broad, from '80s Hair Metal to '90s Grunge to punk and country, classic rock, hip-hop, heavy metal, blues, funk, even bluegrass. The only styles I don't play or teach (that are popular) are screamo, death metal (no blast beats here), and jazz. I'm good with just about anything else and can always teach the basics from beginner to advanced. Read More

For beginning students who are young, I usually start with just a snare drum. Learning stick holding and striking technique, and then move onto adding pieces of the drumset to play on. From there, I go onto introducing learning note values, and drum music reading. For adults, I may start the same way, but also discuss what they would like to focus on. I really like to imply the fundamentals of contemporary music, and what is typically used on well known recordings. Read More

Music brings me a lot of joy, and I hope to impart that to my students! It takes time and effort to gain mastery of an instrument, but the resulting freedom and fulfillment of being able to play and enjoy music are more than worth it.
