After graduating from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance, I have continued to perform and broaden my range of musical experiences through diverse engagement in both the classical and non-conventional realms. It also inspires me as a musician and I learn so much from my students and the teaching process . Because every student has his/her own learning style, my lessons cater to those styles. I figure out a student's strengths and weaknesses. I acknowledge the accomplishments caused by the strengths while I focus on developing the weaknesses. For example, if a student excels melodically but has trouble maintaining accurate rhythm, I will engage the student in listening to and playing many interesting melodies that require him/her to pay close attention to counting the rhythms in order to master playing the melodies. The first teaching concept I focus on is the capacity to produce great sounds with the least amount of effort. Therefore I spend some time in getting the student to play very relaxed to create a relationship with body and mind, I believe music is an extension of the body and so if the mind and body are relaxed then music will come out flawless.
