For beginner students I usually begin with listening exercises. We will listen to music and talk about what the drummer is doing, and how we can de-construct that. From there we talk about how that looks written down on paper and explore the basics of drum notation. Within this we will also talk about proper technique. For adults, or students with more experience, i will try to find out where their skills are and what they are interested in learning from me. Read More

I am a composer and performer who relishes music education! The methods have to suit the child and vice versa. I like to began all students by really getting to know their (and their parents') ability, history, desires, needs, wants, ect. I like to base my teaching pedagogy purely around the child, the family, and their learning skills. Everybody is different and it's my job to explore all avenues that the student wants to accomplish in their musical experience. I have taken classes and studied Kodaly, Suzuki, and various other psychological approaches to education. Read More

I teach combination of the Suzuki method and the Hungarian style (stressing the natural, comfortable, painless, tension free method). For young students, the Suzuki method is great, since the repertoire is all fun! Also the CD that comes with every level is vital! Children enjoy and benefit from that. I am an audiophile, so I can set up students with a quality hifi system on the cheap - this is so vital in Suzuki method, as he stated in his book, Nurtured With Love. Read More

I have been insfluenced and surrounded with music since childhood. I have experience in multiple aspects of music from performance to teaching and just about everything in between. I love working with students to achieve their goals. The most rewarding feeling for me is when my student feels they've accomplished a technique or method on their respective instrument. I strive to keep lessons joyous yet keep the student motivated to practice at home. Read More

I have been teaching lessons in my private studio and at studios in the LA area for the last 7 years. Through my experience I have learned how to make lessons fun and engaging for my students. I also have experience preparing students for recitals and coaching them on various aspects of live performance such as stage presence and stage fright. From a four year old that can't speak english to students much older than myself, I have seen it all! Read More

My teaching style is informal in that the lessons are challenging, but the delivery is casual. It's important for me as a teacher to relate to the student on a personal level, so that I understand what the student wants to do and the direction and path they'd like to take. To see the student progress is most important, but to understand the best method to encourage the student is the primary function of the instructor. Read More
