I've appeared in performance with Eyvind Kang, Vinny Golia, Bill Frisell, Steve Vai, and Dr. Nancy Ambrose King (under the direction of Maestro Jeffrey Kahane). As a soloist I've performed Bachs Concerto for Oboe and Violin with violinist Rachel Iba and the CalArts Ensemble, and won second prize in the Riverside Philharmonics 2018 Concerto Competition with my performance of Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto. I use different book series, depending on the age and level of the student. For young students, I start with the little Mozarts book series, lesson books, and workbooks. For older students, I will either use Bastien or Alfreds lesson and workbooks. This is mixed with a classical and folk book. We also work on theory, and making sure we know our intervals. I like to start out beginning string students with Essential Elements 2000 by the Hal Leonard company. They have a complete system which includes professionally recorded accompaniments which provide a model for the student to hear how to play with good intonation, tone and rhythm which are the most important basics. In addition I recommend other sheet music with piano accompaniment or books with CD accompaniments that can be performed for friends and family. Read More

I use All for Strings, Suzuki, Klengel (scales) at the beginning level. I proceed to Concerto repertoire, Popper, Dotzauer etc. The usual classical repertoire. I will also transcribe popular pieces or pieces that the student enjoys to really increase motivation. I also test weekly to inform students of where their practice ability is at and what they need to improve on. I was assistant principal cellist of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra for 15 years from 1987 to 2002. I was an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Mississippi in Oxford from 1988 and 1998. After 1998, I teach cello at the prestigious Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. I was also the Music Director and Conductor of the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra for 9 years. During that time, I led the youth group on inaugural overseas concert tours to stages in Europe and China, reaching their highest level and largest audiences to the date. Read More
