As far as drumming goes, I believe in the same tenets that were taught to me; start with the basics and core and work your way up. For drums that means rudiments, stick technique and snare basics (books like "Stick Control" -George Stone). But lessons are not a slow grind that maybe one day build up to a full drum set. I was taught (and teach) in a way which mainly focuses first on these essentials (reading, technique etc.), but also incorporates the rest of the drum-set and playing along with other instruments and music. I have been teaching private lessons since 2006 and love doing so. I volunteered at my arts high school for 2 years helping with all of the Jazz Band, AP Music Theory, and private instruction in multiple instruments. In 2009 I graduated from Cooperative Arts & Humanities Magnet High School focusing in Music. Upon graduating from Skidmore College in 2000, I was accepted to Florida State University to the classical guitar program under the study of Bruce Holzman. I feel my decision to simultaneously work towards two masters degrees speaks clearly for my motivation and passion towards music.
