Usually involves forcing student to use a metronome, teaching the student to slow down when a piece is too difficulta tempo,and making sure the student is addressing problem areas of a piece rather than starting at the beginning every time. Last 10 min.: Improvisation. This covers a broad range of subject matter. It might involve me playing something like chords while the student improvises. I have a performance degree from Dean College and was fortunate enough to attend Berklee College of Music. I played Drums for the first time when I was 5 years old. My teaching style is very simple. We will begin by finding the interests of the student. Then we’ll identify what they like about the instrument and their basic knowledge. Once that is done, we’ll begin experimenting with different generes. And finally, we’ll create a plan that will allow them the chance to grow musically and fundamentally on the drums. This in total, will give myself and the student(s) the chance to see how their minds work as far as being able to give different tastes and feels of rhythm, on their instrument. Read More
