For young students, I would usually start them off using Bastien Piano Basics. It's very digestible, and gives a good starting-off point for both technical playing, and larger musical concepts as a whole. With a student who is older or perhaps more advanced, who has a solid grasp on technical proficiency and music theory, I would typically recommend studying specific pieces, starting with Classical, and eventually moving into Jazz. I feel that following a chronological study of music is one of the best ways to become a well-rounded, versatile player who feels comfortable approaching any material. Read More

I think its important to note that I have over 15 years of experience as a student of music and through this formal education, I have observed teachers, analyzed techniques, identified best practices, and formulated a point of view about music education that I have assimilated into my instruction. My experience has taught me that successful music education prioritizes fun, encouragement, inspiration, and connecting with the students. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Music Education from Temple Universitys Boyer School of Music. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I embrace using music as a vehicle for igniting a passion for learning and discovery throughout students academic careers. As a highly unique vital art form that promotes a method of expression of inimitable beauty, music can brighten the days of every human being. I want to be a part of this process in the lives of my students. I have had been teaching private lessons since my High School years and have had students in my home studio for the last 5 years. The greatest feeling is seeing my students build a stronger passion and appreciation for the art form! It's crucial for me that students are reminded that progression is made at his or her own pace. A common thing I notice from students is that some feel that others around them may seem to be ahead of them. It's important to me to encourage students to feel very comfortable and relaxed at their level so that they understand that they are not late or early, but on their right timing. Read More

For beginning piano students, I often get them started with the Faber piano series, then incorporate music theory along with their song requests. For beginning fretted string students (guitar/bass/ukelele), I like to start with the Hal Leonard method book to get started with reading notation, so that we cover more than just tabs and chords. For drum/percussion students, I'll have them start with a combination of Syncopation by Ted Reed and Peter Erksine's Drumset Essentials Volume 1. Read More
