I started playing drums over 15 years ago and having been teaching professionally for 10 years. I started teaching at age 13 for The Town Of Babylon Summer Music Program. After several years of teaching there I moved on to teaching full time privately with students ranging from ages 7 - 35. I have helped my students obtain high scores on NYSSMA, as well as grow as musicians and help them to form bands and play live in front of audiences. Read More

I encourage regular practice and help build problem-solving skills because in the end, you are your own best teacher. I use many different methods but most importantly I tailor the lesson to fit the student's needs. I like to write out lessons, but I generally start my students off using Benny Greb's "The Language of Drumming." I like to teach the student how to play the instrument as if it were a language, in the form of an alphabet. It's a great method in building a strong foundation with the instrument. Read More

Aquiles Navarro is a New York-based trumpeter, composer and DJ of Panamanian heritage. He derives his sounds from folkloric music, salsa, and reggae. This eclectic music background, based on his upbringing in Panama has led him to collaborate with folkloric musicians, dancers, visual artists, actors, and poets. He studied in Panama with tenor player Carlos Garnett and trumpeter Victor “Vitin” Paz. After moving to the US, he received a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Performance at the New England Conservatory, and a Master’s degree from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he studied with trumpeter Brian Lynch. Because of my own amazing instructors, starting when I was about 12 years old, my knowledge of the instrument spans several different areas. As a jazz drummer, I am able to teach brushes, coordination, as well as styles throughout a wide range of jazz history. In addition, my stage and studio experience as a rock drummer gives me the means to teach that music in an authentic way.
