I presently am a show group member of Samba New York where I am section leader for the third surdo section. I play many Brazilian percussion instruments as well. I am also the section leader of the North Shore Symphony Orchestra and the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra where I play timpani. For beginning students we usually start with sitting at 2 drum sets and learning to hold the sticks. It's then about trying to get the sticks to strike the drum and practice getting a nice sound on the instrument. Even at a young age, it's important to help the students to think about tone and how we are creating sound on these instruments. I am a Latin Jazz vibraphonist and popular percussionist with a background in classical percussion. I also hold a degree from Berklee College of Music, where I have spent the last four years studying performance and production. Most recently I produced and lead a group based in New York and Boston. I performed in the Martinique Jazz and Ecuador Jazz festival I studied in a classical conservatory for 8 years and had the opportunity to assist to Interlochen Center for The arts and also studied cuban percussion in La Havana - Cuba at the age of 15. One of the many ways I begin a lesson with a student is by asking them what type of music they enjoy listening to and playing. Once we have this initial discussion, I begin to build the foundation for the lesson plan and my teaching. For example, if a student mentions they enjoy playing Rock and Roll, I will begin with that particular style and simplify it for them. Throughout the years, starting back in college, I have had many wonderful performance opportunities. I have performed in Carnegie Hall in 2011 and 2012 with the LIU Post Wind Symphony and the LIU Post Chorus. I have also taken my performance from the classical world to the modern era being involved in the DCA Drum and Bugle Corps, The Long Island Sunrises in 2013, and the WGI Indoor Percussion Ensemble called Rage in 2006 and 2012.
