I started teaching music lessons back when I was 14, when friends would ask for tips or lessons, and local parents wanted lessons for their children. I like to give the student the correct tools and exercises to make them a great musician and drummer in any style of music they would like to play. Connection.  I believe having a connection with the student is the most important factor. I strive to become close with all of my students.  This way we can learn more efficiently while still having fun.  I spend a small portion of lesson time getting to know my students and talking about what interests them.  Sometimes, I'll take these interests and base the a lesson around it. I grew up in a musical family and began classical music training at the age of 6. I studied clarinet and classical percussion and later on focussed on drums, improvised music, theory and composition. I graduated from the Conservatory in Amsterdam with a Master in Performance and Composition. I believe in encouragement and positive reinforcement at every lesson. I feel that patience is an essential tool in teaching -- every student is unique and proceeds at his or her own pace. I also like to briefly demonstrate the exercises and techniques we are studying, so that my students can see and hear what they are working on, but the student does most of the playing.
