I've been drumming for 15 years now. All the lessons I've had have been through professional instructors. I took lessons from teachers based in St. Louis, New York and Saint Paul. I partook in concert band and Orchestra from elementary to high school. I really love the work of Dave King, a Twin Cities based drummer. I do not limit my students to a predetermined method. I find, through my own experiences, that this is tedious as well as boring. There are many books I use, including Ted Reed's syncopation for all levels of students, but I focus most of my time with a student to finding out what inspires them to want to learn the drums, and go from there. I am a third-year undergrad at NYU, studying Music Education with a concentration in instrumental performanceand I love it! Currently, I am working on the last of my classwork before student teaching full time. I hope to graduate in May 2024 with a B.M. in Music Education and my NYSED pK-12 certification.
