In my lessons I use snare drum method books such as Mitchell Peters Intermediate Book or Stick Control by George Stone to teach reading and basic hand technique. Once I feel the student is proficient in reading and technique I move on to drumset coordination books as well as learning drum parts to the students favorite music. I also teach techniques for xylophone, tympani and other classical percussion instruments. I have an extensive library of music books and techniques so if one method doesn't work I have no problem customizing my lesson plan to fit the student's need. Read More

For beginners, I will start with no sticks in the hands at all! Just tapping on your legs with your hands and getting all of the limbs to work together is hard enough! Then we will put sticks in your hands and learn technique, and finally introduce reading music. One step at a time is the best as to not overwhelm the student. Reading music is an essential element to my teaching style and is a huge advantage when learning an instrument. Read More

My go-to books for Drummers, beginners and advanced are 1. Advanced technique for the modern drummer by Jim Chapin and 2. Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone. No matter what you listen to, the material in these books can be applied to any style. Another tip is to learn what influenced your favorite players. I Guarantee every one of your favorite drummers has studied this book. It contains beginner techniques through the most prominent advanced skills. Read More

Nice, friendly and patient. The most important part of the lesson is the state of mind. For anyone, going to a lesson should be an event to look forward to, nothing else. So, I try to make the drummer in everyone "go to work", even though I take the easy approach. And I love it when the students feel like they get it. Read More
