I am a classical trained musician. I was brought up in Bloomington Indiana, the home of the no.1 rated music school in the States (by the teacher's association). Ever since I was 10, I was involved with the University music life. I had the fortune to study with Janos Starker - perhaps the greatest cello technician in the world! His playing style is comfortable, clean, natural, and free of tension problems. Read More

I use All for Strings, Suzuki, Klengel (scales) at the beginning level. I proceed to Concerto repertoire, Popper, Dotzauer etc. The usual classical repertoire. I will also transcribe popular pieces or pieces that the student enjoys to really increase motivation. I also test weekly to inform students of where their practice ability is at and what they need to improve on. I have a very effecient practice style that I have developed on my own and am quite proud of. Teaching is my life and it makes me happy to see students improve. Read More

Each week at the end of their lesson, my students and I will sit down without the cello and discuss everything that they learned and everything that they need to work on for their next lesson. Together, we set small realistic goals and acknowledge accompishments with small rewards in order to nurture and embolden each student. I always encourage students to enter competitions, festivals, and other programs, as setting larger end goals can be the ultimate motivators! Read More

For beginning string student's, I use Essential Elements for Strings and Schroeder method books. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals and note reading, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki String method. Along with technical studies and solo repertoire, the student will learn scales ranging from one to four octaves. For beginning piano student's, I use the Bastein Piano series. This method is complete with a method book, solo repertoire, theory studies and scales. Read More

My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes. I consider reading music like different subject that they learn later. Learning music is like learning to speak. First we learn to talk and then we learn to read and write. Read More
Instruments: Cello Music
In the last 23 years I have had my own orchestra, and I am the Music Director and have had many youth concerts, and professional concerts as well. I have been blessed to be teaching so many children and Adults. I have had some spectacular teachers and I am delighted to pass on what I have learned as a cellist. Technique is so important in learning the violin or the cello and by learning scales, etudes, short pieces and then advancing more difficult is the process in learning both these instruments.
