Instruments: Cello

I am a younger instructor who is very excited and passionate about the inter- and intra-personal aspects of music and teaching music. First discovering my love of performing and problem solving through chamber music, I have since received a dual degree from UMass Amherst in Music and Social ThoughtPolitical Economy, and I am now pursuing my Masters of Music in Cello Performance at Boston University. One of my biggest challenges and fascinations with music has been how to balance efficiency and honesty with kindness and graciousness in working with others and myself, and it's something I love to explore with my students. Instruments: Piano Cello

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with teaching basic music theory, scales, and start with John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course for the piano students. For Cello beginning students, it's very important to have a correct playing position. Therefore, we will spend some time on knowing cello, position for both hands, and then we will start with Suzuki. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Read More

I am a motivated and open minded musican who takes joy in learning from others. Having recently graduated from the Boston Conservatory this past May, I have taken part in a number of various ensmebles. While my focus was in performance, in recent years I have taken a greater interest in teaching. With both a liberal arts as well as conservatory background, I have had the opportunity to dabble in both worlds. Read More

For beginning students I start with the Suzuki cello books, and teach books 1 to 5. I reinforce the Suzuki with pop/ non-classical songs, depending on the student's interest. After Suzuki 5, which is well into the intermediate level, I introduce individual works (small concerto's, sonatas, etc.) and cater them towards the student's ability and interest. For younger or beginner students, I reinforce the Suzuki books with sight-reading, and as they progress, I add in etude studies.  Read More

Instruments: Piano Cello

I strive to cultivate in all my students a lasting love for the art of music in whatever form it manifests in them. Finding what about the instrument is inspiring to the student is paramount to keeping both of us engaged in the process. As a teacher I challenge my students to explore the joy of making music with their instrument and to chase that which cultivates joy in their playing. Read More

Instruments: Cello

As regular cello practice is a vital part of improvement, I am a firm believer that practice should be treated as a privilege, an activity that sparks discovery and joy, rather than an everyday chore, and I work with my students to determine a style and schedule for practicing that allows them to enjoy spending time on the cello regularly, exploring musical possibilities and having fun with what they are playing while preventing musical burnout. Depending on the level of the student and what they are looking to achieve through the lessons I would use a few different methods. I like to use guitar books if at all possible for beginners because its a great place to start. The fundamentals are where you have to start to build a scaffolding and practice books are great for doing this. I also like to use songs and tunes as a way of teaching different concepts. Read More
