My teaching style is a combination of Suzuki method and traditional method. Having learned with the traditional method, I feel it is vital and extremely important for students to learn to read music from the point at which they start reading books and words, this is typically at age 5. For students under age 5 we begin learning everything by ear, once they start reading we introduce reading notes. I'm passionate about having a parent present for every lesson as it is extremely important that a parent or caretaker learn the material so they can be the teacher at home during the week for practice sessions. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I strive to find an individual approach to each student and it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. While daily practice is necessary for quicker progress, not every student has the time for it. My main foundations for my teaching are rooted in goal setting, collaboration, and engaging music learning. At the beginning of every semester, I like to evaluate the goals from the previous semester, talk about what progress has been made, and what the future goals are. I personally feel that many times students quit because they do not enjoy practicing at home week after week, so for me, collaboration either with students from school, other students in the studio, or in local music schools or orchestras is a must.
