My name is Thomas, and I am a professional cellist with a Bachelor's of Music in Cello Performance from UC Santa Barbara, where I was a four-year recipient of the Casals Cello Scholarship. In addition to my music studies at UC Santa Barbara, I have performed in masterclasses for world-renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, the Danish String Quartet, and Enrico Pace. For beginning students, I like to start with the beginnig Suzuki books, and I incorporate many Suzuki methods into my teaching style. As an accompaniment to Suzuki, I also use Klengal's Technical Studies for the Violoncello, Vol. 1 in order to solidify a solid understanding of scales and hand positions. Once a student demonstrates appropriate dexterity, I begin to introduce solo repetoire that they would like to prepare for studio performances and any other pieces that they have an interest in playing. Suzuki held. Every child can absolutely learn to play the cello when given the opportunity and the patience of an encouraging teacher. I particularly enjoy helping others on their musical journey providing a holistic approach to each and every student. Everyone learns differently and taking a one size fits all approach will leave many students unhappy and/or feeling as though they dont have the talent to play cello.
