Instruments: Saxophone Music
I think the most important thing for a teacher is to have good communication, patience, and guidance. Let the students grow up under proper pressure. My teaching center is to train every student to think and create music itself. I think music theory and all kinds of instruments are tools to express music. It is my goal to teach students how to use music theory and their instruments to build music ideas, and guide students to view the world in the way of music ideas and build their own music palace. Instruments: Piano
I tailor each lesson to the individual student and we set realistic goals. Some students want to learn more challenging pieces and we may work on the latter for a few weeks to a even a few months. Other students feel better working on one piece a week and then moving on. I give great constructive feedback to help improve the students rhythm, musicality, musicianship, and finger placement. All of my students practice more when they love a piece so I try to assign them pieces that interest them. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet
For beginners and younger students, I usually start with things that are low pressure, yet effective. As opposed to using textbooks, I prefer to write my own exercises in front of students so that they feel included in the process. I also normally let them help me write these, which helps with reading and understanding written music and how it's related to the instrument. My biggest emphasis for younger and less experienced students is to get them to try and play everyday, even just for 10-15 minutes and make it a habit. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
I cater my teaching curriculums to the student's interest and proficiency level. The first lesson would involve a discussion about what initially drew the student to the guitar, what genres they love, and what they hope to get out of the class. Next, we will go through the fundamentals, as appropriate for the student's skill level. After we've established a clear vision and certain rhythm of doing things, I would assign 15-20mins of warm-ups for each lesson -- tailoring the warmup exercises to specific techniques that the student wants to improve in. Instruments: Trombone
I always start with a warm up, followed by scale studies. From there we move to etudes, and solos or concerti, and end with excerpts from books like the Mueller technical study or Arban book. For more advanced students and jazz players, I like to start with a warm up, scale study, learn tunes and the blues, big band charts, and end with listening and transcriptions. Overall, the most important thing a student can develop is a full tone and personal sound. Read More
Instruments: Piano
Whether it was just a few notes or a very skillful melody. I would listen to them with interest myself. When I become a piano teacher, I had the compassion and patience to teach my students. Listening and correcting techniques from the starting position to the correct use of their fingers then gradually becoming proficient. I would like to let my students ask more questions while I provide them with knowledge that will benefit them or choose the songs they want to learn. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I have been teaching privately for fourteen years now. I studied under Dr. Ernest Salem at Cal State Fullerton and received various master class from members of Talich Quartet, Mary Straub, Wei-Wei Lu, and most notably James Buswell. My former teacher, Andrea Byers, studied with world renown, Ivan Galamian. I received my bachelor's with an emphasis in music education. After completing my undergrad, I was accepted to the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University of Long Beach on scholarship, and studied violin performance. Read More
