My style is fun, joking around, but firm and serious.  I expect that my students be prepared for every lesson, but to also have fun at the same time.  I don't want to be stogy, or boring.  So I like to see my students smiling and laughing, but learning and enjoying their instruments.  The more the undesrtand their instruments and laugh the more they will enjoy playing that will lead to more technical advances. Being a private instructor affords me the opportunity to really tailor each learning experience to my student's needs, personality and musical aspirations. I enjoy the lesson most when my student is enjoying the lesson, so it's important to me that we're working on enjoyable music, making good progress and working hard enough to have fun. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes.
