While I aim to help students become their best, I ultimately want them to have fun above all else. I believe progress looks different for everyone, and I am very patient and happy to go over something more than once. Learning an instrument is more of a marathon than a sprint in my eyes, and I hope to guide each student on their own musical path. I believe goals are very important in order to progress. However, each student progresses at their own pace. I like setting small goals weekly, and often times incorporate techniques into songs. Seeing students achieve their goals is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. I'll ask students to bring pencil and paper to each lesson and will designate technical goals, fretboard knowledge, and whatever the student's goal is (learning a song, another scale, solo part, etc). I start my lessons with asking the student to give me their top 10 favorites songs that they would like to learn and based on their level I will select one song to start. I start with the essential elements of theory and basic chords. Once the student has progressed I will beging to introduce different styles of music to find out what the student is interested in, and build a lesson's plan designed specifically fot the student and keeping the motivation and fun classes regardless of their ability level. For younger students I start with showcasing what they can achieve with practice and perseverance. I do that by showing my playing. Then we start with the chromatic scale so the fingers can get use to the strings and moving around the fretboard. Same with drums but we start with easy hits and patterns.
