I like my students to be able to learn and progress at the rate they can or want to. I, myself, had wonderful public school music teachers as well as private instruction in piano and voice. I teach my students what I was taught. For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the students age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs. I have my own method of teaching which has worked for every student I have had.  For piano, I begin teaching basic music theory and sight reading from the very first lesson. I typically use "Piano Adventures" method books as a baseline, but tailor the lessons to each student's needs.  For voice, I use a mix of karaoke tracks and light piano accompaniment to help the students learn to sing on their own.
