I wouldn't be able to play in the Big Band I'm in right now if I didn't know how to sight read music, and read it well! However, many musical pursuits don't require the ability to read music at all. For instance, I am in 2 bands right now that I don't have to read a note. I just learn the song and go out and play it! However, in my experience, simple memorization of a tune won't get you very far. Read More

I love being able to see my students succeed and show pride in what they perform. I consider how I can make difficult concepts easier to understand and apply and I always maintain patience as each student progresses at their own pace. Every lesson I have my students write the information they need to know in order for them to better retain the knowledge and set goals that are both practical and realistic. Read More

I've been a musician for almost longer than I can remember and teaching has been the greatest part of my musical journey so far! I've been teaching for 4 years privately and have been teaching through Guitar Center for 1 year as well as teaching through other private lesson applications. I also joined the school jazz ensemble. I have studied percussion for several years as well, and this has given me a solid foundation in rhythms and reading different rhythms. After college, I sought out respected teachers in my area as well as attended different guitar workshops around the USA so I could continue my music studies. I currently play society-type gigs and teach guitar, bass, and ukulele. I enjoy playing Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, and fingerstyle music. Read More

I have been steadily teaching private lessons since I was at Berklee, nearly 10 years ago. I almost always have taught lessons at my own studio where students come to me because that always seems to be the most conducive environment for learning and getting inspired. I've taught complete beginners at the toddler age, and even retired people in their 70s. I enjoy teaching because each student has different needs, different interests, and most importantly digest and internalize new information differently. Read More
