Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I took all of the music classes in my college and I passed with flying colors (except brown because he has a broken wing so he can't fly that much, but other colors flew high). For beginners on string instruments , I start with teaching them the major scale in the key of G, and then progressing to beginner songs. After a few songs are mastered, I ask each student to propose a song theyd like to learn based on their individual taste. For percussion, I focus on fundamentals such as proper sticking techniques and rudiments. Music lessons should be fun  - I have practical tips for practicing but the student's desire to learn will be the drive. The most important thing is to keep picking up that instrument - even if its for 5-10 minutes a day. By modeling that all teachers are still students, I create a safe and supportive environment.
