Overview:
I am a working professional double bassist in the Chicago area. I was introduced to music lessons at an early age playing piano and then later introduced to bass, later picking up guitar as well. I have performed with numerous orchestras and bands over the years, most recently with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. In addition to Orchestral and Jazz playing, I have spent time composing and writing my own music. The instruments I play include upright bass, electric Bass, guitar as well as piano. I am eager to share my passion and help inspire and educate my students.
EXPERIENCE
I have been playing music for over 15 years and have earned two degrees in music (University of Colorado, Manhattan School of Music). Some of my teachers include the world class Orin O'Brien and Tim Cobb from the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Orchestra. In my undergrad I was a finalist for the annual concerto competition and have I performed internationally in Canada as well as Japan. I currently teach bass and guitar lessons with students in Park Ridge, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling and I am looking to expand my student base. Feel free to ask me for a review from former students.
METHODS USED
It is my philosophy that every student is unique and therefore it is necessary to adapt lessons for each student. This individualized approach results with a personalized approach in order to accomplish the specific goals of the student. I teach both formalized and personal methods that guarantee results. I am well versed in music theory and various practice techniques. I believe that learning to read music and tabs can be helpful but not essential to learning how to play an instrument. I am flexible and most importantly passionate about helping students achieve their desire to learn.
LESSON STYLE
I incorporate different styles of teaching including 'rote learning', which is essentially learning by ear and imitation, as well as uniquely tailored exercises. I incorporate different warm-up etudes that I use with each student to build basic fundamentals of learning the instrument. And I also encourage students to practice scales and drills to develop their muscle memory. I also believe that learning to play an instrument is as much a physical experience as it is a mental one that requires discipline, repetition, hard work, and patience. It is also my belief that positive encouragement goes a long way.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
