I began teaching lessons in college. Most of my early students were elementary-school aged and novice. There, I learned that regular practice must be encouraged to allow interest to begin to pique and passion begin to form. I firmly believe that hard work and discipline go much further than talent alone. I also firmly believe in fun! My most deeply seeded goal is for my students to develop a life-long love and practice of music! Read More

I began teaching lessons 8 years ago when I was 16. I was heavily involved in my church's music program and I began with a few students who were fairly young. By the time I was 18, I was teaching over 15 lessons a week to students ranging from 4 to 45 years old. During my college years I was in school full-time, so I taught a small number of students on and off; however the experience I gained at Berklee significant increased the quality of education I'm able to give a student. Typically for beginning students, I like to introduce students to basic theory such as reading music and understanding chord structure. My teaching styles for bass and violin vary widely. For violin students, I typically like to focus on developing their technique so that they are able to have a good foundation for playing in the future. For bass students, I like to focus on developing their ear early on so that they are able to be very versatile in their playing and be able to adapt to the genre they are playing. Read More

With students in their mid-teens and up, I will ask them what their interests are and teach them accordingly to meet their goals. As far as method books, I will use Alfred Methods and methods I learned from my past teachers. Read More

I'm a multi-instrumentalist, a songwriter, a producer, a performer, and a lifelong student. My life has been enriched by great teachers, and I hope to pass that gift on to others looking to further enjoy making music. Read More

For beginners, I usually start with teaching you basic technique on the instrument. For example, how to hold the instrument, notes on the fretboard, how to count and play at the same time, etc. Once the student progresses, I begin to teach you more intermediate techniques, music theory, ear training, and learning songs. For advanced students, I try and give more in-depth material to be able to play the music that you love to play. Read More
