I feel that one of the most important aspects of music that is often overlooked, is that music should be fun. Because of this, I try to keep my lessons focused on material that really excites a student. I believe that its very important to introduce a student to a wide variety of music to help them identify what really inspires them. Once a student has discovered an aspect of music that they're truly passionate about, then they are almost much more motivated to put in the practice to master that aspect of music. Read More

I am an enthusiastic instructor who enjoys helping students gain confidence and enjoyment with music. In 2010, I received my masters degrees from Eastern Michigan University in Classical Guitar Performance. Since 2000, I have played well over 1000 concerts in pop rock band The Outer Vibe as a writer and guitarist. My touring experience has given me the opportunity to play all across the United States. My background in classical and pop music has given me an appreciation for all music and I love sharing it with students. Read More

I first started teaching during my sophomore year in college, teaching students how to prepare for the Iowa All-State Music Festival. I taught these students throughout my college years and saw many of them become successful trombone players, plus a few are now great band directors. Since I graduated college in 2013 I've been invited to be a brass clinician for multiple schools, a middle school solo contest judge, and as a musician in a wide variety of ensembles I work with fellow colleagues to create a memorable performance that audiences will enjoy. I believe, first and foremost, your passion for music and your instrument is the most important element when learning. There is nothing better than seeing a students eyes light up when they have accomplished their goal! With that said, I want to know what music inspires you and what styles you love. I grew up worshiping Stevie Ray Vaughn and so I focused on blues music as a young kid but draw inspiration from all different genres and learned many forms and styles. Read More

It is important that every student learns and improves at their own pace because everyone learns differently. So I break down songs and theory in to increments so that they can be more easily digested over time. I find that this method of learning is extremely helpful in the retention of the knowledge the student learns. Also not all students are interested in learning the same things so I think it is very important to find out what the student wants to learn and gain from playing music and what their expectations for themselves are.
