My main focus is on reaching the student, and fostering their love of music. I am adamant about instilling in students the genuine excitement and desire to pick up their instrument and practice. This is the most important lesson and will never leave a student. I do this largely by integrating what a student needs to learn in order to excel into what they want to learn, and I have had great success with this method. Read More

I have been teaching students for 7 years, since I was a college student at Columbia University. When I began taking on students, I soon learned that I loved teaching music as much I loved performing it. Not only was helping someone achieve their musical goals highly rewarding, but I found that teaching helped me to learn and grow as a musician as well. In 2021, I began teaching remotely over Zoom and Skype. Read More

I believe, first and foremost, your passion for music and your instrument is the most important element when learning. There is nothing better than seeing a students eyes light up when they have accomplished their goal! With that said, I want to know what music inspires you and what styles you love. I grew up worshiping Stevie Ray Vaughn and so I focused on blues music as a young kid but draw inspiration from all different genres and learned many forms and styles. Read More

For beginning folk/pop guitar students I use the Hal Leonard Guitar Method. For Classical guitar I use a combination of various resources, including Segovia scales, Sor studies, Guilianni right-hand studies and Frederick Noad method books. I definitely encourage students to work towards performance of the music they are working on, and try to schedule recital/performance opportunities as students deveope and gain mastery over their material. I always try to maintain a healthy balance between keeping the student working on music that challenges them, and advances their technique, with the need to have fun and enjoy the playing of a musical instrument as a means of entertainment and relaxation. An Effective Teacher Needs to Practice What They Preach. A good educator must first have mastered their art and studied the principles underlying human development to fully understand how to teach someone the art of music. This goes far beyond replicating your musical history, or relaying what you think was the right path when you first learnt music. An Effective Teacher Needs To Stay Up To Date I try to stay up to date on the latest teaching resources and methodology An Effective Teacher Needs To Engage Their Students Hence, be open and willing to learn and teach new repertoire which engages your students. I began teaching lessons 8 years ago when I was 16. I was heavily involved in my church's music program and I began with a few students who were fairly young. By the time I was 18, I was teaching over 15 lessons a week to students ranging from 4 to 45 years old. During my college years I was in school full-time, so I taught a small number of students on and off; however the experience I gained at Berklee significant increased the quality of education I'm able to give a student. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
