Typically, I begin with regimented learning. For guitar students, I use Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1. For voice students, I teach basic breathing exercises and fun, sustainable and memorable warm-ups. From there, I begin to prep them for their first solo performances. I offer studio-wide performance opportunities for new and experienced students to show off their skills! As they progress, I teach to their interests and needs. Some students may be in high school prepping for Solo and Ensemble, or All-State Chorus auditions, or even college auditions. Read More

I began teaching lessons 8 years ago when I was 16. I was heavily involved in my church's music program and I began with a few students who were fairly young. By the time I was 18, I was teaching over 15 lessons a week to students ranging from 4 to 45 years old. During my college years I was in school full-time, so I taught a small number of students on and off; however the experience I gained at Berklee significant increased the quality of education I'm able to give a student. I have used many different methods over the years and will supplement any method book to meet the individual needs of the student. My preferred method for young students is the FJH Harris Young Beginner's Guitar Method series. For older students I tend to use either Mel Bay or Hal Leonard methods to teach the fundamentals and then add onto them with whatever suits the student best. For advanced students I prefer the William Leavitt methods from Berklee University Press, which will be a challenge for anyone! Read More

My life's work has been focused on my enthusiastic and passionate approach to music. I started piano lessons when I was 5 years old, and have studied and played the guitar since I was 10 years old. I have a specific appreciation for the skills required to play instruments on professional recordings. I started my own recording studio when I was 18 years old, and have been making records ever since. I have sang and played a variety of instruments on many recordings, including acoustic and electric guitar, bass, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, ukelele, piano, and organ. Read More

Music is fun, no matter how tedious the learning process may be. With practice and determination, a student will be able to progress and love their instrument even more. Each week we will determine realistic goals for the student. If progress is made, I may come up with something creative ways to reward my students for their work. As long as I inspire and touch the lives of my students, I will feel rewarded as well. Read More

I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16 th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month.I want to get them off and running. I teach them to read chord charts in the first month and have students reading notation in F and G clef in 5-6 hours worth of lesson time. My theory teacher Mr Lormand, had a master from Julliard and was a stickler for the vernacular and so am I, my grandmother was a school teacher and I get a lot from her as well.I get my students to buy a Harvard Dictionary of music for reference. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
