I taught at The University of Cape Town as a lecture in Jazz vocal studies from 2004. I was involved in The Artscape Youth Jazz Program as a mentor for several years as well as a performer and lecturer for several years at The National Arts Festival/ Grahamstown Jazz festival in South Africa. I have also taught at the summer jazz camp program in Prague for the past 5 years. In high school, I first started working with kids through Special Olympics, mission trips, and church. As an educator, I am soft-spoken, patient, and warm, creating an understanding environment. My expectations of my students, though high, are extremely clear. It is up to the educator to modify for every student. I began teaching voice in college both privately and in group settings. In addition, I directed and taught music for two theater productions. I enjoy helping each student reach their unique goals as an individual. I am trained as an opera singer and I specialize in classical/operatic and musical theater repertoire. Additionally, I am trained in music theory, ear training, Eurhythmics, acting, Alexander technique, vocal pedagogy, French, Italian, German, and Greek so I can offer insight on any of these topics. I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. That being said there must be a mutual understanding that I will do all I can to help students get over a "learning hump" as I call it- I have access to a plethora of journals, articles, teaching websites, a personal library, all of these materials can be scanned, printed out, emailed and whatnot for the benefit of my students. Other recent roles performed include Dominick Argentos Postcard from Morocco (Lady with a Hand Mirror), Candide (Cunegonde), Sweeney Todd (Johanna), and HMS Pinafore (Josephine). Her recent concert appearances include the title role in Debussys La Damoiselle lue, and soprano soloist in Handels Judas Maccabaeus with the Queens College Choral Society.
