Overview:
I am a Pop Keyboardist, Songwriter/Producer, and Composer, who has toured with two bands, and done plenty of gigs with solo artists. I recently graduated from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, where I studied contemporary piano, and I have had the pleasure to play with student musicians at the GroundUP Music Festival, Okeechobee Music Fest, SoFar Sounds, WLRN Radio, and Adrienne Arsht Center, performing with Il Volo, Michael McDonald, GRiZ, Eric Krasno, members of Snarky Puppy and Vulfpeck, Gallant, Lawrence, Becca Stevens, and Darmon Meader. I also have some of my music on Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud, and YouTube. Last summer, I worked for a composer in LA and composed additional music for Cartoon Network’s Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Dreamworks’ Harvey Street Kids, films Hope Spring Eternal and Calvinist, and I composed the score for “Retro Couture,” which screened in Miami, Panama, and Brussels.
EXPERIENCE
I got a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam, and have an overview of theoretical and performance education in contemporary, classical, and jazz idioms. I have taught private hour long piano lessons one-on-one with young children and adults, and taught music theory in group classes as well as privately, through the Shalala MusicReach Program at the University of Miami. Some other tidbits about me are that I have Perfect Pitch, which means that I can quickly learn and notate music for you that you want to learn, and that I am also proficient in music production and notation software if you need help or want to record anything
METHODS USED
With beginning students, I will lay out all of the fundamentals, teaching all of the scales, basic chords, key signatures and time signatures, and gradually integrate strategies for reading music. Depending on what the student is interested in learning, I will pull from my pool of repertoire - we could be studying a Bach Invention at the same time as a Billy Joel song. Classical music is great for technique and in many ways textbook for teaching harmony, but I play and love contemporary music, and will teach anything, as long as there is some form of musical knowledge to be gained from the material.
LESSON STYLE
I firmly believe that experiencing music and being inquisitive are invaluable to learning how to play music. Studying music is not just about learning the material and regurgitating it, but discovering why a moment of music is cool and examining what about that moment makes it hit you in the right spot. I will be the guide that the student needs when he or she does not know where to go with his or her studies, but I want to encourage students to bring in music they want to learn, or discuss music that they think is cool and use that as a jumping off point into our lessons.
