I graduated with my Bachelors in Voice from DePauw University in 2017 where I studied with Caroline Smith. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Vocal Performance at the University of North Florida with James C. Hall. first i ask what the student desires to learn . what type of music etc. once i have taught a few songs i ask the student to write a list of songs that they would like to learn. i teach how to find the key that the student sings in and how to transpose the song into that key. if the student does not wish to sing i teach them how the instrument of their choice works . again regardless of the instrument i usually am able to teach a student two songs in an hour lesson . one in four four timing and one in three four timing . there is nothing better than to see the light come on in a students face and see the confidence of ' i can do this ! For beginning students who are children I use varying method books such as Faber, Bastian, Leonard etc. These method books do a wonderful job of progressing the student naturally and gradually which is my style of teaching.
