I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, or draft up my own exercises.  I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs.  I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique.  I also teach songs that the student would like to learn.  I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! It is important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, acknowledging accomplishments, fueling a students desire to progress, and finding ways to stimulate a students desire to learn more. Every student is different, especially when it comes to vocal training, so I tailor my lesson plans according to each individual student's ability and needs. I begin with the basics of breath control and work to help each student find their natural voice. I use different vocal exercises to help improve tone and range and then incorporate what we've learned from those exercises into singing songs. As I pursued my Master’s degree at Rutgers University, I took private lessons from Grammy-winning opera singers such as Eduardo Chama, all while continuing to sing and perform locally. My education in music has taught me to value the relationship between instructor and student, as I know that I learned best when I felt that my instructor was committed to my improvement as a singer.
