My student, no matter what age, starts with light vocalizing, lip trills, humming etc. for young students I usually pick a light song and work on basics using the song as an exercise. My older students have to work a little more, exercising scales, monitoring placement, support, palette work. A song is picked by me and the student together. Read More

I create lesson plans for students based off of their passions. If a younger child has never read music before, success is usually found in working with music that they are interested in. If a student is beginning to study improvisation a similar approach is used with styles of soloists that they are very familiar with. Learning must be fun and it must improve ones understanding of the subject at the same time if it is to be rewarding. Read More

I'm new to teaching guitar and voice, however, I'm not new to teaching as I have struggled to learn certain subjects in school such as mathematics, and I am aware of the hardships that can be associated with what I call the learning curve. Almost everything in life has the learning curve so when I teach I do it in such a way that is easily understandable; because I remember being in the same position as the person I am currently teaching, and I think I wish this person taught me how to do this in this way, in a more simplistic way. I also introduce "Piano Improvisation" by Frank Caruso, a top Jazz book where you start playing blues and continue with jazz. I also introduce the Jazz series from the ABRSM , a graded program with five books from beginner to advanced. For Jazz repertoire I use "Hearing the changes" by Coker knapp and Vincent, where you learn to memorize close to 500 tunes by ear , classified by their chord changes. After lesson 99 of the Bayer method I introduce "Preparatory exercises in score reading" by R.O.Morris where a more Baroque repertoire is introduced along with reading in the C clefs, a rather challenging book for those who aspire to climb the higher grades of learning to read from an orchestral score. I encourage all my students to learn the basic rudiments of music including music theory, sight-reading and playing ‘by ear’. I recommend Mel Bay’s “Children’s Guitar Method” and Hal Leonard’s “Guitar Method Book 1” for school age children. However, many of my students have decided to concentrate on learning basic theory involving chords and scales to develop ability to play ‘by ear’. When working with voice students I focus on basic theory, breath control, and vocal scales to develop student’s ability to discern musical intervals. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
