My style consists of trial and error, accompanied with determination of student preferences. I've experienced a range of different students, from beginner to advanced, as well as children who were special needs students. Initially, once a students preferred style of music is deduced, I'll find songs within the students preferences, skill range and or even construct a song specifically for that student to learn fundamentals. Whether a student needs work on technique, rhythm or practical knowledge of music theory, there's no end of methods to utilize to help a student attained to their desired level of proficiency. It is of paramount importance to me that I impart my experiential and theoretical knowledge of all things music unto the student in a personally tailored fashion which emphasizes the knowledge necessary for each individual student to identify and achieve their musical goals. I have the ability to identify the students interests and base my curriculum around their needs and desires as a musical being. I believe that knowledge not applied or bestowed unto another is wasted and that the most important thing about bettering yourself in any regard is to be able to pass that knowledge on to others so that they may add to the whole of the collective of, in this case, musical expression. I do major scales and fingering immediately clarify the students' knowledge of the keyboard. I take this knowledge and apply it to note reading: I introduce reading by distance as well as recognition. I can usually have student reading simple music in the first two lessons. I explain note values and how to count. I started drawing a picture of a boot and explaining upbeats and downbeats and segway into counting and playing eighth notes. Read More

I like to balance structure with fun! This balance is very important when teaching any student a new instrument. Too much discipline and not enough fun and creativity could result in the student feeling stressed out or unmotivated. On the other hand, not enough discipline will make it difficult for the student to progress efficiently. I work with the student at their own pace and set realistic goals for them at each lesson.
