I've experienced a range of different students, from beginner to advanced, as well as children who were special needs students. I take this knowledge and apply it to note reading: I introduce reading by distance as well as recognition. I can usually have student reading simple music in the first two lessons. I like to balance structure with fun! This balance is very important when teaching any student a new instrument. Too much discipline and not enough fun and creativity could result in the student feeling stressed out or unmotivated.
